CDC of Marlboro County to Host Meeting on HomelessnessBennettsville, SC - REMEMBER THIS DATE - OCTOBER 7, 2010
On this date, Community Development Corporation of Marlboro County will host a community meeting on homelessness. It will be held in the downstairs conference room at the CDCMC office located at 106 E Market Street, Bennettsville, SC at 12:30 pm.
This is an issue that residents of Marlboro and surrounding counties need to be aware of. According to HUD guidelines, the definition of homeless is as follows:
The United States code contains the Federal definition of homeless...In title 42, chapter 119, sub-chapter 1, homeless is defined as
11302-General definition of homeless individual
(a) In general
For the purposes of this chapter, the term "homeless" or "homeless individual or homeless person" includes-
- an individual who lacks a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence and
- an individual who has a primary nighttime residence that is -
1. a supervised publicly or privately operated shelter designed to provide temporary living accommodations (including welfare hotels, congregate shelters and transitional housing for the mentally ill;
2. an institution that provides a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized
3. a public or private place not designed for, or ordinarily used as, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.
According to the homeless count done in 2009, there were only 20 homeless people in Marlboro County. Everyone knows that this count is not correct. This meeting is to raise awareness and get residents, local businesses, agencies and the church community involved.
